Getting Started

This guide gets the imageio modules working in a project: add a plugin, build from source, and read your first vector image through the standard ImageIO API.

Prerequisites

  • A JDK matching the project baseline: Java 25 (set via maven.compiler.release).
  • Apache Maven 3.9+ (or the project’s Maven wrapper, if present).

Add a plugin

Pick the format you need. For SVG:

</dependency>

The plugins (imageio-svg, imageio-emf, imageio-wmf) register themselves as ImageIO providers, so no manual registration is needed.

Build from source

git clone https://github.com/verronpro/imageio.git
cd imageio
mvn install

Read your first image

import javax.imageio.ImageIO;
import java.awt.image.BufferedImage;
import java.io.File;

BufferedImage image = ImageIO.read(new File("image.svg"));
